Love the sound of your voice. I want to try this recipe (especially since I love bananas).
Believe it or not, you can just root them directly in a jar of water also. That's how I've done all of the most recent one's I've rooted. Roots begin to form in as little as a week and a half to two weeks. I just put them into a vase and sit on my dining table out of direct sunlight but still with plenty of indirect light during the day. I did two experiment groups with the white ones and blue lace. I took short cuttings and clipped the leafs back on one group and put into clear plastic cups of water, covered with a sandwich baggie to keep the moisture in. The others were taller clippings like you had that I did not shorten. I left all the leaves on, and didn't cover with a plastic bag. Those rooted FIRST.
Thanks for the caterpillar info, and very useful to keep an eye on the brassicas as well. Awesome.
hey,you could make some beautiful walking sticks and walking staffs from that hazel wood,i seen some beautiful straight pieces that you could make some beautiful sticks and staffs with, thought i would just mention that
Great uses.. I grow potatoes in mine..
Nice❤
It's a scary experience seeing you add all that sugar in one go because I have had too many explosions over the years. I would add it gradually but get it all in by about one and a half weeks.. 🙂👍
V informative bits in the video. Good to grow plants naturally. Could i check on what material you have used for the cold frame and is the cold frame inside a greenhouse or cud be stored out in the open areas. Thanking you.
One question..im going to plant kent cobnut...do yiu think i could get a harvest of hazel nuts and coppice same time ? I no the common hazel don't produce nuts compared to Kent cob
Your fit ❤
You are very much good girl. Please come to India to meet me
We're just getting started looking after our own little woodland (and resurrecting the hazel coppices), not to far from Wales near the Forest of Dean! And yeah, it looks like you've got the same sort of approach to us. So don't let the haters hate ;-) Thanks!
Good to see you /super
Great vid Erica 👍
I bought some at a car boot and had no idea how to use them. Thank you for your clear instructions 😊
Love your video. I have a big beautiful mop head right outside my kitchen deck. Every morning I throw my leftover coffee filter over the railing 😂 instead of the garbage or compost. I have HUGE DARK BLUE blooms just like your neighbors. When I planted it 13 years ago it was pink.
Great idea, will this work with earlies like Charlotte? We found you can also put garlic cloves in the fridge for a few weeks to simulate winter and apparently it helps with ?'stratification'? so you don't have to plant them in autumn and risk a very wet spring rotting them. The largest cloves have grown well so far in our home made compost 😄 Thanks again!
Anyone try this on tomatoes.
😂 i was worried because i just started growing potatoes but it gets about 4-5 hours of direct sunlight and i always read that they need 6-8 hours. Im glad to see you get 3-4 and those potatoes look great. One question how often do you water them? Im thinking not real often since they get less sunlight. Anyway good job!
imagine being so brainwashed you actually think there is something wrong with heating your home with firewood.
When you say up here? Are you in the North of the UK?
It depends on very many factors.
Very ease to put
Really awesome idea for an experiment, especially for those interested in general candle-based heating.
one idea i just had is, after the 2 or 3 weeks of the plant getting rooted well, add some blood fish & bone to the reservoir so that seeps through into the root area aswell. and one more is, add the canes at the start so you not pushing them through healthy roots .
Do the nettle not sting???
Your beautiful
Thank you so much! I’m in the process of filling my raised bed now and this is helpful and encouraging 😊
I wouldn't be too worried about burning wood as fuel. Wood kicks off a lot of heat and was more capable of heating our house than the gas central heating we used to have in another place Green solutions are way beyond our finances, and Imtnot happy about batteries which use elements that cause problems in other parts of the world - plus a lack of tecycling for solar panels and turbine blades. Green energy has got to do better than this, and it looks like geothermal and DAWTs might be the answer, eventually. I burn wood I grow from my own trees too. But while some ends up on the fireplace, other bits are added to extensive brash hedges (for wildlife), as 'defence boundaries' for plants vulnerable to deer/pheasants, and as props for annual vegetables/fruit/nets and the like. I find that some of the stakes I have shoved in the ground have rooted to become pretty good plants. To begin with, I discovered Hazels take root when I took just 2 cuttings as an experiment, and one rooted. Next year I took 25, and only one rooted. I didn't bother after that (seedlings everywhere anyway), just used them in the ground where they will be useful and, on occasion, a number of them will flourish (as long as the weather doesn't get too hot). I find coppicing such a heart rending job. I had to cut down my 2 favourite Hazels last Autumn, both having the best shape of all my collection. Had to be done, they were growing huge, and I'm sure they'll come back better. In the little strip of woodland I own, there are a few Hazels that look like they were coppiced regularly until recent times, when the art died out. I'm slowly working my way through them.
Yes, a walk through would be interesting. It's always interesting to see what someone else is doing in this regard.
I did this with home made lard candles and clay pots, it did a great job! 😊
I’ve just looked on google to see how I can regrow potatoes from one planted crop for year round without having to repurchase more seeded one’s. I realise that this video is 3 years old but I am interested in knowing which ones are safe to grow. I believe that supermarket varieties wouldn’t be advisable. So if I was to buy from a nursery then would I be able to safely save and regrow them the following year. I know that our food is being tampered with and with all these seedless varieties of fruit and fake foods now being sold to consumers I have to say it does worries me. Loved your video.
Really nice 👌
The grass matting can prevent water getting through too.
Do NOT mow with flip flops!
Thanks.
Heat primarily with wood, and save about $1,000 a year on LPG and electricity. Works great.
Thanks! Just collected my first batch this morning! Does the type of seaweed matter? I collected the one will lots of tiny 'balls' on it. Thanks for sharing!
Please put better protection on your feet when mowing, one slip and toes gon
The aesthetic of a garden is good and all but the joy of creativity is what makes me happiest.
much love, just planted two trees
👍🏽🙏🏽 i love the way you're so mindful of the critters. Delightful sound track too. 🌳🕊💚
If you take your nettles and ferment them with organic brown sugar about 2 part nettles to 0ne part sugar, in a week you will have a nettle syrup that you dilute 500 parts water to one part nettle syrup. They do not stink with this process either. It is more of a foliage spray.
When you do know dig potatoes you have to keep the hay or straw in your case grass clippings about a foot deep at all times or you will get green potatoes not fit to eat…
Wawuuuuuuu 🙂😍🥰😗 l love this sooooooooooo much.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm off foraging for nettles tomorrow 🌱
this was helpful thank you
I'm surprised that the wood was still so intact after several years.
